When we hear the term ‘self-care’, we automatically think of things like bubble baths, spa days, and massages! While all of these can be a part of ‘self-care’, true ‘self-care” focuses on the inner parts of yourself, the parts that are responsible for your emotional and mental well-being. Humans tend to forget that we are greater than the sum of our parts. Real self-care involves looking inwards at the parts of ourselves that we would rather not deal with. This encompasses our emotions, the way we think, and the experiences we choose to hold onto, especially our past traumas. When we can find a way to adjust our way of thinking, learn to direct our emotions in a positive way, and focus on leaning in on trusting ourselves, that is the truest form of ‘self-care’.
